What Happened?

Multiple rounds of competition couldn't deter #TeamBelgium, who rode away with the win in the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final at CSIO Barcelona last weekend.

After a highly competitive season in the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ European Division 1 standings, the Belgian team—comprised of Niels Bruynseels (Gancia De Muze), Pieter Devos (Claire Z), Jos Verlooy (Caracas), Nicola Philippaerts (H&M Harley V. Bisschop), and Chef d'Equipe Peter Weinberg—defeated France in second place and Ireland in third in the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final. The competition culminated with a dramatic showdown between Belgium and Italy, with the latter’s anchor rider, Lorenzo de Luca (Ensor De Litrange LXII), having rails at the final two jumps on course, leaving Belgium to finish on 12 faults and the title (Italy ultimately finished fourth).

Belgium led the European Division 1 standings coming into the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final, managing to hold off Ireland and Switzerland, their ongoing rivals throughout the 2018 year. Among the Belgian team’s strongest performers: Bruynseels and Philippaerts, who jumped double-clear over two days of Nations Cup competition at CSIO Barcelona. As one of the youngest members of the team, Philippaerts, 25, will add a cherry to the top of his already breakout 2018, winning two stops on the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) at Cascais/Estoril and Chantilly, leading the standings in Global Champions League team competition with the London Knights, and finishing in the top 10 at five stops on the LGCT tour. Niels Bruynseels’ Lady Cracotte Will Go to Cian O’Connor

Speaking of Niels Bruynseels, the Belgian rider's top mount, Lady Cracotte, will move to the stable of Ireland’s Cian O’Connor. Bruynseels & Lady Crocotte have also had a standout  year, winning the Grand Prix of Waregem last weekend, as well as classes in Aachen, Rome, Valkenswaard, Lier, and Bonheiden. “This mare has a fantastic record, and Niels has produced her beautifully. I feel lucky to have been able to acquire her through Abdel Said, and I am really looking forward to getting to know her,” O’Connor said.
