Quote of the Week
Philipp Weishaupt & Asathir (c) Satu Pirinen/Helsinki International Horse Show
“I have to say, the horse was just incredible, she is a pleasure to ride and I really think that the best horse won today. [Asathir] is an absolute superstar and there’s nothing she can’t do.”
—Germany’s Philipp Weishaupt had nothing but praise for the 11-year-old mare, Asathir, with whom he won the 1.60m Land Rover Helsinki Grand Prix on Saturday. The future looks bright for Weishaupt & Asathir, who have only been paired together since the summer.
Frankie Thieriot-Stutes Is All of Our #AmmieGoals
California entrepreneur, mom of two, and amateur eventer Frankie Thieriot-Stutes came, saw, and conquered this weekend at the Dutta Corp Fair Hill International CCI3*.
Tell Me More
Riding the 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Chatwin, Thieriot-Stutes led from wire-to-wire, beating out a field of Olympic big guns including Boyd Martin, Buck Davidson Jr., and Lauren Kieffer. The pair was one of only two riders to make it through Derek di Grazia’s cross country course clear and inside the time, leaving them with a rail in hand going into show jumping on Sunday (they jumped clear anyway).
“I think it was mentally tough the whole way around — for me and my horse, too. He has so much heart, and I was really proud of him…You have to stay committed the whole way around — both your horse and you,” Thieriot-Stutes said.

The California-based Thieriot-Stutes brought Chatwin, her only competition horse, up through the ranks herself, beginning at the CIC1* level in 2014. In that time, the pair has amassed a slew of impressive results, including a fourth-place finish at the Bromont CCI3* in 2017 and a win at the Rebecca Farm CCI3* in Kalispell, Montana earlier this year. Thieriot Statues is a mom to two young boys and the owner of both the Athletux public relations company and Frankie Cameron handbags. In other words, amateur riders everywhere: Yes, you really can have it all.

Watch Zazou Hoffman Go For Broke in Del Mar
Fortune favors the bold, and sometimes, it even works out! Zazou Hoffman proved just that this weekend in the $100,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Del Mar, where she and the 14-year-old Swedish gelding, Samson II, laid it down in the jump-off (hold your breath for the last fence!).

World Champ Simone Blum got hitched!
The World Equestrian Games Individual Show Jumping Champion, Simone Blum, added a new title to her resume this week: life partner. Blum married longtime boyfriend Hans-Günther Goskowitz in Zolling, Germany, and the lucky guy even plans to take Blum's surname as his own. Three cheers for gender equality!

Spooky Horse Costumes For Your Spooky Horse
We’re not sure who first had the idea to dress up thousand-pound, flight-prone animals in billowy costumes and then allow them to carry around small children, but hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! Halloween costume parade season is officially coming to a barn near you, and if you happen to be short on creative ideas for the spooky green pony in your life, here are a few to get you started. Godspeed.
No groom? No problem. John Madden can still throw down with the best of them.
Olympic trainer John Madden wears many hats, but this week at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, he proved he can still put a rider in the ring—and polish her Parlantis to boot! (See what we did there?) Madden accompanied his student, Maddie Goetzmann, to Harrisburg this week sans groom, but the pair didn’t let that stop them. “John and I are here alone ourselves this week, so we’re both grooming. We drove [Prestigious] up here this morning together, so we’ve been up since 3:30 a.m. in the morning,” Goetzmann said (you can read her full comments here).
